Art Athina - High Tide Planetary Pull
Valinia Svoronou

In a future life, Hot Wheels Projects presents a solo presentation of Valinia Svoronou High Tide Planetary Pull II, simulating a decompression zone from the hustle of a futuristic city. The booth takes its lead from Svoronou’s recent comic book, High Tide Planetary Pull, a collation of stories from 1960’s counterculture, Cold War scenarios, feminist science fiction, and an understanding of the surrounding sci-fi speculation. The booth itself re-enacts one of the opening frames from the comic, creating a therapist’s office, where the protagonist Merc Tartas finds herself, complete with furniture, designed to mimic a 1960s therapists office exploring the idea of co-existence between the past and present, a hub of future space. The Comic, which takes place between the planet earth and the moon is translated through a large-scale idyllic landscape. Placed on the landscape are two futuristic fragments, comprising of painted plaster and fiberglass weave. Another fragment splits two smaller rooms. These two rooms reflect the a-linear narrative, where one can move between chapters and can take their own path through the comic, acting as ones own ultimatums to future chapters.
